FPGAs enable VXS for Software Radio and DSP
This presentation discusses how FPGA technologies are being exploited in next generation COTS real-time systems. Topics include the implementation of the new industry standard VXS switched fabric backplane; streamlined synchronization capabilities for beamforming and direction finding systems; architectures for interfacing multi-GHz A/Ds to system components without sacrificing performance; and effective use of local memory for digital delay and transient capture. Additional topics include the implementation of FPGA-based digital signal processing algorithms that easily outperform even the fastest DSP; several strategies for data rate reduction to match application and interface requirements. Plus, packaging techniques for commercial, ruggedized and conduction cooled form factors suitable for deployments ranging from laboratory to military maritime, land, and airborne applications.
