Congratulations on having your submission accepted for presentation at the 2004 Military and Aerospace Programmable Logic Devices (MAPLD) International Conference.
There are three types of presentations at MAPLD:
- Oral Presentations - in the Amphitheater and are 20 minutes in duration, plus Question and Answer
- Poster Presentations - outside the Amphitheater on 4' x 7' poster panels
- Workshop or "Birds of a Feather" Presentations - in either Hemisphere A or B, are informal and discussion based, generally based on oral and poster presentations.
Both oral and poster formats are equivalent (some other conferences distinguish between the formats) and will be a part of the 2004 MAPLD International Conference Proceedings. Additionally, all presenters will have their technical paper published in the conference proceedings.
Workshop or "Birds of a Feather" presentations are informal, designed to promote discussion, and thus are placed in a smaller room (Hemisphere A or B). These presentations are generally based on oral and poster presentations. If you wish to present in one of these special sessions, please contact me.

These guidelines have been compiled over the years and show what works well and what doesn't. General Instructions for MAPLD Presenters
Please note the following key dates and use your assigned paper number on all correspondence. The procedures for 2004 have changed and the program will be announced based on the preliminary presentations that are submitted.
- April 26, 2004: Abstracts Due
- June 14, 2004: Preliminary presentations (Oral and poster) are due to mapld2004@klabs.org
- July 5, 2004: Program Announced
- August 9, 2004: Final presentations (Oral and poster) are due to mapld2004@klabs.org
- September 8, 2002: Preliminary paper due to mapld2004@klabs.org or the conference check-in desk.
If you have a problem with a deadline, please let me know, I'll work with you, we really are author friendly and understand about flight projects and various deadlines. Do not coming running up to me at the conference with a CD-R, DVD, request for an internet download, a paper tape or an 8-track cassette. I do hope to enjoy the conference and not run around. If you have a problem, please let me know in advance.
The following list of guidelines will make your presentation both acceptable and effective, with lessons learned from previous years and comments received on our evaluation forms included.
- All presentations are to be fully technical in nature. Product descriptions for industry presenters should be kept to a bare minimum, and only as required to enable explanation of a technical point.
- Lessons learned: Yes, you did good work and everyone is interested in it; that's why we're here. However, there are usually pitfalls on the path to success and breakthroughs. It would be good to include one or two slides in your presentation dedicated to "lessons learned" as well as a section of your paper.
- Logo: It is acceptable to have your organization's logo in one corner of each slide or panel.
- Slogans: Company slogans may not appear in your abstract, presentations or paper.
- Advertisements: You should not advertise your www site in your presentation.
- Quotes from "experts" should not be part of your presentation or paper - you are required to make your own technical points and discuss/defend them. A historical quote or a quote from a famous person to make a point is permitted, if it adds to your presentation. A quote claiming that your product is both "less filling AND tastes great!!!!!!!" is unacceptable.
- Distracting graphics: Do not use backgrounds in your presentation (i.e., no company logos, fancy graphics, 'framing', or even shading) as they distract from your work, harm the quality of the presentation, and makes the printing of quality hardcopies difficult. Shading text boxes, while it looks nice on a PC screen at home, is difficult to read in a conference room, the poster area, and on hardcopies.
- Name your file with the paper/presentation number, the last name of the first author, and the letter "s" for "slides" or "p" for "paper" using lower-case characters. An example would be: b2_katz_s.ppt and b2_katz_p.doc.
Identification: On each page of your paper and presentation, include the following in the footer:
Left Side - Last name of the first author
Center - Page Number
Right Side - The presentation/paper number followed by the conference ID (e.g., B4/MAPLD 2004)

Important: Technology Transfer Considerations, Copyright, and Proprietary Information
Presenters and authors are reminded that technology transfer guidelines and policies can considerably extend the time required for review of abstracts, presentations, and completed papers. Proper Government reviews, ownership of copyright, and the absence of proprietary information is solely the responsibility of the author. The organizing committee and sponsors will assume that all submitted work is appropriately cleared for unrestricted distribution to an international audience.
All material submitted to the MAPLD International Conference is put into the public domain and is available for unlimited distribution in hardcopy and electronic formats. Indeed, that is one of the purposes of this Conference, to share information. MAPLD does not require you to sign over the copyright to your material and you may do with it as you wish.
