SSB-1: Guidelines for Using Plastic Encapsulated Microcircuits and Semiconductors in Military, Aerospace and Other Rugged ApplicationsHenry Livingston
Introduction (Excerpt)The military and aerospace electronics industries are experiencing an ever increasing demand for the use of plastic encapsulated microcircuits and semiconductors. While plastic encapsulated microcircuits and semiconductors offer a number of inherent advantages over hermetically sealed ceramic packages, uncontrolled use can introduce a number of technical risks in military and aerospace equipment applications that are not associated with hermetic packaged devices.
The G-12 Solid State Device Committee of the Government Electronics & Information Technology Association (GEIA) developed guidelines for assessing the suitability of plastic encapsulated microcircuits and semiconductors for use in military, aerospace and other rugged applications. EIA Engineering Bulletin SSB-1, Guidelines for Using Plastic Encapsulated Microcircuits and Semiconductors in Military, Aerospace and Other Rugged Applications provides:
